The importance of family.
Who is your family? Some people will say that family are the folks you are related to genetically. There have been times in the past when there is a clash in my family between some or all of us and I don’t want to have anything to do with them, for a quick minute, as I deal with hurt feelings. I love my brothers and sisters but sometimes some of them just don’t act right until one of them is in trouble then the protective side of me surfaces and I will take up arms for them.
Who is my family? Anyone who loves me and exhibits the attributes of members of a family: meaning they are a person who loves me and shows it: caring, concern, and giving… those people I call family.
Recently, my family dropped to our knees as my youngest brother fell ill under the attack of the Covid Virus, and then, as he struggled to recover, he developed pneumonia, and our foundation as a family became rocky. For a week, he laid in hospital and we did not have access to him due to hospital regulations and not knowing how he was doing gave us many sleepless nights. I sped to be by his side when he came out of the hospital. As I helped him with the mundane household chores and making sure he has nutritious meals to eat, take his medications, and rest, I was reminded of how our heavenly father lovingly cares for us his children with no reservations and complete devotion.
As we have surrounded my brother, I am reminded again and again that God is our father and any of his children are our brothers and sisters and not just those we connect with genetically. I am brought to my prayer knees because I want to be there for my brothers and sisters in Christ just like I’ve been here with my brother as he’s being restored.
Today as you read this blog, be kind and not just within your genetic pool. Sometimes, you never know who needs that card in the mail and it won’t hurt to enclose $25.00 in it or a gift card with whatever you can afford. You can also pick up the phone and call someone you haven’t spoken to in a long while or call someone you’ve never called from your church…it could be a senior member that you know will enjoy hearing from you. It takes so little to show kindness and brighten someone’s day and in the process, your life gets some of the shine as well.
Let’s share God’s love with everyone.
Be encouraged.
