We had a standing joke in my family when I was growing up about the words used to describe the behavior of someone who is rich versus someone who is poor in regards to falling into the hands so the law.
We would listen to the evening news and listen as different terms were used for similar offenses depending on your perceived status.
There was theft and we will hear:
…John was apprehended as he was running away after stealing the merchandise of 4 traders
….Mr. Jonson embezzled the money from the traders union.
When a rich man steals they would say he’s an embezzler.
When a poor man steals he is called a thief.
When a poor man is caught telling untruths, he is called a liar but when a rich man is caught telling untruths he is said to be stretching the truth.
We live in a world that has double standards for people depending on their status or influence.
I want to turn your attention to Gods word in the Bible
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal faithfully are His delight (Prov. 12:22).
A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who tells lies will perish (Prov. 19:9).
But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death (Revelation 21:8).
But the king will rejoice in God; everyone who swears by Him will glory, for the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped (Psalm 63:11).
Truthful lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only for a moment (Prov. 12:19).
I have always realized the power of what telling a lie can mean for the person lying and the people hearing and believing the lie. I have told lies and been the recipient of malicious talk as well as I’m sure we all have.
What can be done about it?
School yourself to be comfortable responding to questions you do not know that answer to with…I don’t know.
If you’re asked a question you might not want to respond to you can respond with: ...
I do not feel comfortable answering that question.
Remember, you do not need to lie and you do not need to take what is not yours.
I pray you can find the strength in the words of this blog and remember to be your best self in honest and Godly character.
